On a dark night
Waves caressed the white sand
On the Shetlands
Long ago.

Seal skins
Lay there in the white sand
From the mermaids
Who had taken them off.

A young lad passed and
They fled into the sea
All mermaids but one
From whom he stole the skin
So she would stay with him.
