Well It used to be that taxes
Wasn't cause for much concern
For our Uncle wasn't worried
Over the money that we was gonna earn.

But today with rising taxes
On almost everything you do
Just sit back and give a listen
And I'll just try and name a few.

They've taxed your family auto
Not to mention gasoline
Taxed your weekly payroll
And a lot that just can't be seen.

Taxed your telegrams and phone calls
Luggage and carpet tax
You'd think the time had come
When them revenuers would relax.

Will I always have to work in vain
You have caused me many tribulations
taxes taxes you have taxed my brain.

Now if you win a host of prizes
On a jackpot giveaway
And you think that you're lucky
Brother, you'd better think the other way.

Cause when you finish paying taxes
federal, state, and city too
You wind up paying more in taxes
than the jackpot paid to you.
