The Mask We Left Behind

And if then my life is just created
If the theatre of my days must stop
Can I leave behind the roles I've acted

To live again; to feel free

The curtain falls; the play is finished this very day
Who is hidden behind the mask I've taken taken off?

To have to learn again; to live in the unknown
The rules are changed; the game is not the same
From mis-matched costumes I sew again the least
Repairing who I am; but who I do not know.

After impressions and illusions I see myself at last
In the mirror; I see what this old wreck looks like
I see it born again, restored, to take the air
The curtain rises; the mask falls; and who I feared to look for now appears.

To discover who I am, I've abandoned my disguises
All the armour I'd learnt to always wear
I never look backwards any more
I've let the mask fall, far behind...
