There once lived a Vilia, a fair mountain sprite
She danced on a hill in the still of the night
A huntsman came by who was comely and tall
His horse for to graze by the cool waterfall
Suddenly he turned, amazed
And suddenly he stood and gazed.

Stream and vale listened to his sweet love tale
Vilia, O Vilia, my nymph of delight
Haunting the woodland, enchanting the night

She welcomed the huntsman with white lily hand
And soon he was lost in a strange fairyland
She kissed him, caressed him, then fled like a dream
He woke all forlorn by the cool running stream
Gypsies on the cool hillside
Still hear him calling far and wide
Stream and vale
Echo with his sad love tale.
