Sundown

Pounding through the swirling dust and burning sands
With howling winds at his back
Spectres of icy breath and fatal hands
Race across the welkin of funereal black.

And the light of the gods
Divides the dark of the night
As the sky weeps at the odds
Of the doomed in the fight.

He feels the yearning in his soul
The sacred will of preservation
But the inner force of control
Propels him towards his ruination.

A dreadful clamor echoes from the lonesome hill
The cry of a sickly serpent, deafening and shrill.

Quaking through the earth we stand upon
Unconscious power from spirits is drawn
Flashing lights in amethyst and gold
Rising smoke above the hill unfolds.

The absolute swirls within itself
And the center of creation trembles
Unearthly impact fractures the self
And remnants are reassembled.

Serpent and man, fold into each other
Vital forces merge together
The last sacrifice of blood and fire
An age of chaos now expires.
