A Legacy Of Loss

Born with nothing we crawl, into this world
Naked and frail, pale and alone
Searching for something, a place to call home
Endlessly seeking an answer, marching into the unknown.

When we are only a memory, what then will be our legacy?

So they say the weight of the future, rest heavily on our shoulders
Day by day we are all getting older, day by day our lives are slipping away.

Step by step we move forward, struggling on
We suffer and slave, and expire
Shedding our blood in the name of desire
Adding our bodies, one by one, to the funeral pyre.

What will be left behind, when the hourglass runs dry?

Piece by piece, we abandon our dreams
Giving in to blissful apathy.

So we grasp at whatever we can, feeling time as it slips through our hands
But our lives are built upon sanding, always shifting, and we cannot hold on.

But time is a river, washing away, every memory and trace
And all the we offer, all we have made, will fade into nothing, til nothing remains.
