My Last Breath

This is where it ends, where my heart turns black
This is my last breath, as my lungs begin to collapse.

There is so much I need you to know
But my words have failed me, my body has betrayed me

To keep the angels with me, and keep my demons at bay.

My spirit was willing, my flesh was just too weak.

Guilt bites deep, sinking in its rotten teeth
Driven like a nail into the heart of me.

I can feel it under my skin, it's always there, it's always been.

Shame takes hold, senses numb and growing cold
It's been so long now, the pain is all I know.

And now there's nothing but a void inside my chest
An empty space inside me, filled with regret.

All that I taste is metal on my tongue, as I struggle to fill my shattered lungs
And now I make my last request, as I take my final breath.
