Dragons Of The Celts

Since the dawn of time
‘Neath waters of azure concealed
Whereon dances the moon-gleam
Sleep, undisturbed, draconian beasts…

Rolling hills of ochre-green
Form the ramparts of their lochs
To keep encroaching man at bay
And stop the gait of the modern world!

In Loch Morar and Loch Ness
Live still the dragons of the Celts!
In Loch Lomond and Arkaig
The neighing of sea-horses can be heard!

Old legends yet survive
In fascinated children’s eyes
And tales told by the fireplace
On a cold and windy winter’s night…

Magic courses ‘neath the sheen
Of moonlit waters green and deep
In this land where fables come to life
As yet untouched by the sickle of time!

In Loch Lomond and Arkaig
The neighing of sea-horses can be heard!

A forlorn race of majestic beasts
Already old when mankind was in infancy
With eyes of gold and diamond teeth
Still sings and breeds amongst the reefs!

And if it chances to some gentle soul
To catch a glimpse of a behemoth in the loch
Then ‘tis good luck and joy for all
For it means the dragons yet guard this land!
