En reslig dräng av bergmansätt
I toglig alvskog gingo
En höglandssång hans lynne klätt
Som ton ur bäckar fingo
Där vattenandars serenad
Manar liv ur djupet
Den stjärnelysta hästdryad
Bär dräng mot forfallstupet.

Sinnesvill, förrutan värn
Långt nord om hemlandsgärden
Vid hovmönstrad mosses tjärn
Skrider midnattsfärden
Furomgjuten, skogens gäst
Av fagerlek förblindad
Du ryttare av rännilshäst
Med arm om manen lindad.

From tale guise in disheartened garb
